[Secret Revealed] Why Did Trang Struggle with Belly Fat for 17 Years?

The image on the left is something I never thought I’d share publicly until recently when I started to show my transformation, especially my battle with belly fat over the years. Many were shocked and asked, "Trang, how did you have such a big belly before? You don’t look fat, and you dance tango, you must be slim!"

The image on the right was taken two days ago, exactly 26 days into the "Eat Well, Slim Waist" program. My waist is slimmer, my body is more toned—not because of significant weight loss, but because of fat reduction and muscle gain—something I hadn’t achieved in 17 years!

Today, I hope everyone will understand why I was so motivated to change.

Why Did I Have a Big Belly for So Many Years?

  1. Pregnancy and Weight Gain: The weight gain began when I was pregnant with my child, Bống. The pressure to breastfeed meant eating a lot to produce quality milk. This led to many bowls of stewed pork leg and countless cans of condensed milk. I also had to hold my baby a lot, leading to poor posture and my abdominal muscles expanding to accommodate fat.

  2. 13 Years of Fasting: You might think fasting leads to weight loss, right? Not always. After gaining weight, I began a long period of low-carb dieting, avoiding carbs for 13 years. This led to an imbalanced diet, lack of good carbs, and overconsumption of protein and fruits at times. These habits contributed to excess calories, sugar, and fat, while my body lacked proper nutrition to build muscle. Periodic imbalances led to binge eating, causing new fat to accumulate primarily in my belly.

  3. Misconceptions About Diet and Exercise: Despite being frustrated about my belly fat, I thought I was doing everything right. I dieted, practiced yoga, and danced tango regularly. But I was wrong! We need to remember this ratio: EXERCISE ONLY CONTRIBUTES 10-20% TO OUR BODY SHAPE, THE OTHER 80-90% IS DIET!

    "Eat Well, Slim Waist" opened my eyes to a truth that once seemed vague: comprehensive, sufficient, and proper eating can transform our bodies!

  4. Stress: Stress from work, family, and the pandemic added to my issues. And yes, the psychological pressure from my disproportionate belly contributed as well. Wearing shapewear to hide my belly was uncomfortable and frustrating.

Stress and lack of sleep cause our bodies to release cortisol, which raises blood sugar levels, breaks down protein, and accumulates fat around the belly.




In Summary: The main reasons for my imbalance over the years were undernourishment and stress. Can you believe it?

Now, I am no longer the old Trang. I am deeply grateful to those who guided me in this journey of eating well, staying healthy, and transforming my body and health from the inside out. What I have achieved motivates me to share, give back, and pay it forward!
